It could also be seen as a confident move, or an endeavour to buy further time before the release of Long Live Rock n Roll. Whatever the reasons, they are purely academic, and this reissue allows newcomers and enthusiasts the opportunity to revisit the splendour that was Rainbow at this moment in time. Whatever ones opinion on taped introductions, the dialogue from The Wizard of Oz is pure theatrics and is the perfect preamble.Like many Rainbow performances of the time this set begins with the invigorating Kill the King.

Another brave move as this song was yet to be released on the follow up Long Live Rock n Roll album. This version will not disappoint with it breathtaking speed and vitality.

Dios voice is on fine form and appears self-assured and authoritative. The solos burst out of the tune in rapid succession and the stall is set out. Man on the Silver Mountain has an urgency that was never evident on the album version, and features an extended Blues Starstruck which showcases some intricate guitar and organ based blues and what sounds remarkably editiin a duck adding a few choice phrases.Another extended piece augmented by some searing guitar soloing is the ballad Catch the Rainbow which, at over fifteen minutes, may for some be outstaying its welcome, but for the Rainbow devotee is a treat for the ears.

Testing the patience of the rainbow on stage deluxe edition download listener dodnload Mistreated, the Deep Purple song, is characterised by lengthy guitar workouts, which symbolize the Rainbow live experience, and should possibly be seen from that perspective.

The vocals are, however, overflowing with passion and taken together, the experience of hearing it here is not objectionable.Sixteenth Century Greensleeves next, from Ritchie Blackmores Rainbow, gives an indication as to where Blackmores career would in due course be heading. Sownload with a dramatic guitar adaptation of Greensleeves, the piece then moves into overdrive with a plethora of medieval metaphors.

Closing the original album release is a version of The Yardbirds Still Im Sad from the first album, which provides a vehicle for each band member to solo to extremity. For the dedicated Rainbow collector, the second disc of this deluxe reissue will be of particular interest. Featuring tracks recorded at a show in Osaka in December 1976, the running order may be truer to the original show, but the music featured is of comparable content to the first disc.Mistreated, Catch the Rainbow and Man on the Silver Mountain reappear in extended form, with the only addition being Do Close Your Eyes, another example of the sownload and theatricality that characterised a Rainbow show of the time. The tracks that make up the original release of On Stage were taken from recordings made in Germany and Japan in 1976 during the Rising world tour, and are comprised of various song segments splices together by producer Martin Birch.

There appears to be much discussion online as to what could have been included on the original album, and this reissue, and, as Frank Zappa did with many of his recordings, the splicing together of the best segments to produce what is essentially a fake representation of events. However the criticisms are levelled, these recordings are pleasurable and inspiring pieces of work.Rainbow Facebook PageOur Rating: 8/ 10 Other reviews, interviews and news items that might interest you: Rainbow Long Live Rock n Roll (Deluxe Edition Reissue) Rainbow The Singles Box Set 1975-1986 Dio Dream Evil (Deluxe Edition) Dio Holy Diver, The Last In Line & Sacred Heart Deluxe Editions Death The Sound Of Perseverance (Reissue) Mad Seasons Seminal Album Above To Get Expanded Deluxe Edition Re-release Andrew W.K.

'Chesyrockreviews' aorwxmBorn in the late 60's, Chesy hails from a Welsh mining village with a long name and was pretty glad when he got the Hell out of there. He got into Rock/Metal in about 1980, thanks to a TISWAS related incident (Rainbow video for All Night Long) and thankfully has never looked back.Chesy often sang solo in the school choir, but thanks to a puberty related incident his voice is now completely bolloxed, although in his own head Paul thinks he sounds like a blend of Coverdale and Dio (R.I.P).He was brought up on the classics - Deep Purple, Rainbow, Thin Lizzy, Rush, Whitesnake and loved melodic rock and the Hair Bands of the 80's.

(Nowadays, he has progressed a little and rainbod a more technical and/or progressive metal - Dream Theater, Rush, Symphony X, Porcupine Tree, Pain Of Salvation, Spock's Beard. He hates Black and Death Metal (can't stand the grunting) but for some unknown reason loves the magnificent Opeth! He wont stop this blog until his beloved FM finally play the likes of the NEC as deluxr headlining act!!! View my complete profile Also for release at the same time as the magnificent Long Live Rock andRoll (see review here - http://www.chesyrockreviews.com/2012/11/rainbow-long-live-rock-n-roll-deluxe.html), On Stage has been given the Deluxe treatment I dont know why, but I remember buying this on vinyl around '81/'82 andit was the most expensive album I had bought at that moment in my life, andremained so for many a year.

Almost eight bloody quid it cost me at our localWH Smiths! It was never in the sales!! Whilst I'm not a huge fan of live albums as they generally fall short ofthe live experience, On Stage however did not and showed Rainbow at theirvery best; a moving, haunting beast of a band, expanding on originals inthe best prog rock sense, editioj great jamming capabilities. Then deluxr, let loose in a downooad that Deep Purple never really let him. Noduelling with Jon Lord, it was Blackmore getting totally immersed in his music, turning already great songs into masterpieces.

Dont believe me, check out hisplaying on Catch The Rainbow, and Sixteenth Century Greensleeves inparticular and tell me this isnt a man at the very peak of edution game with theaudience hanging on his every single note On Stage was rare rainbod the 70s, as Rainbow had just two albums undertheir belt. The third studio album was due for release late Summer 1977, butafter the departures of Carey and Bain, LLRNR didnt surface until 1978.

OnStage bought Donload some valuable time. So to do On Stage took some balls. It took years for Purple to come up with the legendary Live in Japan, yetRainbow just two! This typified Blackmore's confidence;in his band, andparticularly in his playing. As a massive Rainbow fan, you may feel a little disappointed as the thenstaples of A Light In The Black, and Stargazer are missing from the bonussection.

There are valid reasons for this as the original tapes are hidden awayas securely as Jimmy Savile's diaries. Only one of the eight shows recorded(four in Germany, and four in Japan) captured ALITB, but Stargazer wasplayed at almost every gig during this period.

Bugger! The original On Stage was (due to vinyl constraints) moved around froma commercial standpoint, and proves that Martin Birch was a genius, as thequality is impeccable and his editing skills in removing Powell's thunderous1812 drum solo, and he even spliced parts of songs from different shows, resulting in an album that stands tall against any of the studio releases. The extended versions of Mistreated, Still I'm Sad, SixteenthCentury Greensleeves, and Catch The Rainbow are truly phenomenal versions,to the point where its difficult for me to dig out the originals as edituon arepoles apart from the live rainow you're buying this, then you're in it for the bonus disc as On Stagerequires little critique.

Apart from the loud hiss still present (16th C inparticular). As a live album, its up there with the very best. Disc 2 istaken from a show in Osaka on 9/12/76 (Ah, I was 9!) so I'm assuming that thesequence of this disc is more in line with the original running order.

What itdoes show is that Rainbow was an organic experience, growing and developing allthe time, with every passing gig, with Blackmore improvising to his heartscontent, pulling the rest of the band with him in wild abandonment.

Catch TheRainbow and the Medley being particular examples with Ritchie showinghis classical chops, and throwing in his love for Lazy as a part of themedley as well as lots of toying with the audience, edltion is a good 14 minslonger than the vinyl version. The only real addition from the original is Do You Close Your Eyesexpanded and with some added welly. Despite the lack of Stargazer, On Stageis still an album to behold and sfage get your mitts upon. Ritchie and Ronnie (andRainbow) never sounded better live! Cozy sounds great, and Tony and Jimmy are clear in the mix. If you have a previous remaster of this album, this one is still worth getting. I won't review the On Stage album itself - if you're reading this, I assume you're familiar with it.

If you aren't, stop reading and click "Add to cart."Now for the second disc - the labeling and booklet are incorrect.

The bonus songs are not from Osaka; this is most of the Tokyo 12/16/76 evening show (only Stargazer and Still I'm Sad are missing). I've confirmed against both the Song Brothers and Mr. Peach sources; it's all Tokyo. The version of 16th Century Greensleeves delkxe On Stage is entirely from this show, so you get the same version of this song twice (boo - hence the docked star from the rating).

Didn't they listen to the tape and ask themselves "Doesn't that sound familiar?" Blues and Starstruck from this show are also on On Stage, so you get those twice as well.

And why no Stargazer? They claim in the booklet that they couldn't find a version of it, but they have all the songs up to Stargazer, and the encore from later in the show. However, the version of Catch the Rainbow from this show is outstanding except for one little flub in the first "Bless me" section; I'm glad to finally have it in excellent sound.

Mistreated isn't one of the better versions - Ritchie cuts the solo short. The Osaka versions are better, as is the Tokyo afternoon show version. Do You Close Your Eyes has never been one of my favorites, even more so when you're spending a couple of minutes listening to the band play the riff over and over because Ritchie was busy demolishing a cheap Strat. It was indeed Rainbow's classic line-up. Opening up with a powerful rendition of one of Rainbow's best songs, 'Kill the King' (after a fun 'Wizard of Oz' intro), they then move on to a terrific medley, the highlight of which is the Blackmore-Carey inspired 'Blues' piece.

There are so many great performances on this album. The cover version of 'Mistreated' is way better than any version Deep Purple ever did but the creme de la creme has to be 'Catch the Rainbow'. This raainbow a monster version of this track which includes a wailing Blackmore solo that must rate as one of his best. In the middle, the solo halts into momentary silence (you could hear a pin drop) before Ritchie kicks off again. Absolute genius.

Dio's voice is seldom better and he is superb throughout, particularly during his inter-action with the crowd during 'Man on the Silver Mountain'. Other than the slight disappointing absence of the line-up's best track, 'Stargazer,' this live album is editiin masterpiece.

Buy it, you won't be disappointed. Why Ritchie split up the 1976-77 line-up as soon as he did I'll never know.1 Stabe people found this helpful. Was this review helpful to you?Yes NoSending feedback. History - Blackmore left Purple, Bolin joined Purple, Purple imploded!

All this in 12 months in the mid-seventies. Blackmore replaced the guitarist in a relatively unknown band called Elf and recorded one album. He then demolished stge band and replaced everyone, except the singer; Ronnie James Dio. In came super drummer Cozy Powell, keyboardist Tony Carey and bassist Jimmy Bain. These five musicians recorded, what in my opinion is easily the greatest Rainbow studio album ever; Rising. The deluxe edition - Many Rainbow fans felt a little shortchanged when the original On Stage dowload was issued; there was the fire of the band, working off each other, Blackmore having free reign to do whatever he wished, yet songs were left off, songs were seemingly cut, solo's ignored, and some songs patched together!!

This latest release is excellent insofaras we get (nearly) six officially unreleased songs, plus the original songs. This is fine, the mix on the new songs (recorded in Osaka, Japan during 1976, according to the CD, but it was actually Tokyo!) is a huge improvement.

There's a real ferocity from the start of Kill the King until the end of Do You Close Your Eyes. We get another version of Mistreated, Dio is damned good and makes the song his own. As a huge Purple fan he isn't quite as good as Coverdale on what is ostensibly a blues song, but he is still a superb vocalist. now the slight disappoinment, the "extra" version of Sixteenth Century Greensleeves is the same as the original album, just re-mixed, It sounds better, however it's a shame we aren't given another version!

Next up is Catch the Rainbow, which I think part has been cut, but it is still over 18 minutes long. Penultimate extra is Man on the Silver Mountain, again though parts of this song were used on the original On Stage. Read more Comment7 people found this helpful.

The sound quality is excellent, Martin Birch is a producing genius. The playing is equally brilliant, and Blackmore tears it to pieces on the guitar. Dio's voice is powerful as usual, and blows me away. This album came out after the self-titled "Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow" and "Rising," and before "Long Live Rock 'N' Roll." That being said, it is quite strange that there is only one song from the very album they were edtion for!

It is "Starstruck" from the Rising album, and they don't even play the whole song: they do a little bit of it in the middle of deulxe on the Silver Mountain." Instead of promoting their newest release, they included 4 songs from their debut, a cover of Deep Purple's "Mistreated," and a song that would later appear on the Long Live Rock 'N' Roll album ("Kill the King").Basically, for all the songs except for "Kill the King," they jam on the songs for like 10+ minutes each.

Need I say that this is awesome? I love rainbow on stage deluxe edition download to Downlozd play the guitar. However, the best part of the album is at the end of "Man on the Silver Mountain" when Dio goes "You're all the maaan!!!" It's cool.

If you are a fan of Rainbow, Dio or Ritchie Blackmore, you will not be disappointed. If you are not, then start with something else (Rainbow Rising, Black Sabbath's Heaven and Hell, and Deep Purple's Machine Head, respectively).Comment38 people found this helpful.

Was this review helpful to you?Yes NoSending feedback. As I consider this record is worthy of being on many: "Best Of" lists. Best: deluxs album, Best: "Live Album of the 1970's", Best: "Live Hard Ranibow Album, Etc,Etc. This double record, had more room on the four sides of those records to fit more songs from the 1976 concert on it. I was lucky enough to see a show from the Summer 1976, "Rainbow Over America" tour at the Berkeley Community Theater.

And, as I have always been big about this album, as one of the very rsinbow. But, when it is compared to the concert I attended in Berkeley, here on this CD, rainbw are only getting about HALF the show. The epic version of: "Stargazer" {with drum solo by Cozy and the big explosion in that solo} is not here.

That was by far one of the highlights of this amazing show. "Black Sheep Of The Family" was far better than it's studio counterpart {not included as well}. "Do You Close Your Eyes" {where is that?}. 31 years is indeed a long time, and as I don't remember everything from that night, I do know that the 1976 show was 2 Hours in length, and lot's more of that show could and should be presented here to tell the complete story.Still, this is one of the very best live recordings ever released, but if there was a CD that needed a: "Deluxe/Expanded Edition", of 2 CD's to be released: "On Stage" should be at the top of that list.Any fan of: Ritchie, Tony, Cozy, Ronnie James and Jimmy, should already own this monster, but there is more that needs to be heard!Four Stars !!!17 Comments22 people found this helpful.

Was this review helpful to you?Yes NoSending feedback. I have been a Rainbow fan ever since I can remember. I was 10 years old when this LP came out and listened to it over and over and over throughout the years. There is no question that the Dio era is the BEST Rainbow era by far.

If you want dowmload simply listen to a great live album and listen to Dio, Powell and Blackmore do their stuff, then this is a great listen. However, there are a couple of disappointments with this.First! There is not 1 song from their BEST (or even one of the best albums ever for that matter), that being "Rising", on this live effort. Sure you get the short "blurb" of Starstruck during the Man on the Silver Mountain medley, but that only lasts about 20 seconds.Secondly!

Catch the Rainbow is a great ballad but it is WAY too long and took a complete side of an LP when originally released. It also had some long silent moments. I was willing to get by this but then Mistreated was also a complete "side-stealer". That being said, those 2 took too much time and should've left room for songs like "Tarot Woman, Stargazer, the complete Starstruck or even Light in the Black", songs that are certainly worthy of playing live. The live versions of Kill The King and Still I'm Sad are the best tracks.I'm still giving this 4 stars simply because it's the classic lineup deulxe it edirion good.1 Comment22 people found this helpful.

These guys were everything Kn Sabbath would kill to delixe, but could never be (Iommi can't rainhow do what Blackmore does on the guitar, due to his fingers having been chopped off in an accident years ago and Ozzy has always been too stoned to recognize his own mother, let alone remember what key he's supposed to sing in). Here, we have the entire band in top form - and, thankfully, somebody did a good job with the electrics, so the hum from the Strat's single-coil pickups wasn't too frustrating for Ritchie (he often cancelled concerts simply because of this; yes, he's a dyed-in-the-wool perfectionist), Dio's vocals are as great as ever and Martin Birch's production is, predictably, top-notch.While I don't care that much about the "Wizard of Oz" intro to "Kill The King", this album raingow makes the listener wish s/he was there to experience the concert(s).As for Dio's perforance on "Mistreated", it makes you wonder why Deep Purple bothered hiring Coverdale in the first place. One note regarding the mixing, now, because it shows the stance taken regarding the soundstage created during playback (you need a decent stereo system to hear this, forget your PC's speakers and those cheapskate tin cans sold en masse by various Jap and Korean manufacturers as "hi-fi combos").

On the cover of the album, you see from left to right:Tony Carey with his keyboards, Jimmy Bain with his bass, Cozy Powell's drums, right in front of him is Ronnie and Ritchie is to the right. Of course, the audience is in front of them. You'd expect this to be what you hear, right?Wrong.

Birch decided to put the listener ON THE STAGE with the band. Read dowlnoad Comment13 people found this helpful.
